Homeschooling – Helps With Anxiety

They say that homeschooling helps with anxiety. However, growing up we didn’t have that. Anxiety is a part of our physical makeup. It is something that we can not get away from. It is something that if not addressed at an early age can cause negative results for our children later on in life.

I remember when I was in grammar school. I went to a Catholic school for 5 years. The grades went up to the 9th grade, however, I just couldn’t stay there. For those who have never been to a Catholic school growing up, at times it was no fun.

The classes were taught by Nuns and I remember at times when I would have been “hit” on my knuckles with a wooden pointer for something. Perhaps it was making some noise, I don’t remember. I remember another time that I was put into the clothes closet or coat room for punishment.

Scary

Understand that I was about 6 or 7 years old. That closet had a window that to me was about 10 feet above my head. I didn’t dare to move. I was never punished at home because I never really did anything bad. My father was a big man, to me, and I never dared to do anything wrong.

During those school days, I remember walking down the hallways and seeing these old, wrinkly ladies in that black attire looking down at me. It seemed like they never smiled. If you don’t think that this environment didn’t cause anxiety, you are mistaken. Maybe that’s why I used to dream of dinosaurs. Who knows.

Well in addition to that, when recess came it was a mixed blessing. I would love to go out into the courtyard and play baseball and run around. On the other hand, it wasn’t that great because some of the boys were mean. Sometimes, I would come home with a torn shirt caused by their cruelty, causing more anxiety. I remember having many headaches.

.

Junior High and High School

When I grew older there was still anxiety to overcome. I remember when I was in the 8th grade I had taken WoodShop. Well, there was this boy that had stayed back a couple of years so he was much bigger than the rest of us. He used to bully the rest of us making it most uncomfortable to attend that class. It’s kind of hard to try to learn a subject and have a bully breathing down your neck. Homeschooling online would have been a blessing. However, there was no such thing as a computer at that time so the stress and anxiety lingered on.

It finally came time to graduate from Junior High school to High School. You hear about all the great things going on there. Well then to be honest, back then, the worst things that were done were “Smoking in the Boys Room” as the song relates, and chewing gum in class. Compared to today, we have to laugh at it. However, the stress and anxiety of learning those new subjects and knowing that you need to do go to go to college created a new kind of anxiety.

That was then. I graduated in 1964. Today, things are very different. Today, we have to be concerned about students taking firearms to school.

Bullying

It is now known that anxiety is one of the leading causes of school shootings.

Anxiety can be caused by many things, including bullying.

.

homeschooling prevents bullying

When students are bullied, they often feel anxiety and a sense of isolation. This can lead to depression and, in some cases, suicide.

To prevent school shootings, it is important to address anxiety and bullying in schools. One way to do this is to provide more support for students who are being bullied. This can include homeschooling.

Here is a snippet of a current article reinforcing what I am saying:

Lacking counselors, U.S. schools turning to online therapy
By Jocelyn Gecker Associated Press
December 2023

Trouble with playground bullies started for Maria Ishoo’s daughter in elementary school. Girls ganged up, calling her “fat” and “ugly.” Boys tripped and pushed her. The California mother watched her typically bubbly second-grader retreat into her bedroom and spend afternoons curled up in bed.

For Valerie Aguirre’s daughter in Hawaii, a spate of middle school “friend drama” escalated into violence and online bullying that left the 12-year-old feeling disconnected and lonely.

Both children received help through telehealth therapy, a service that schools around the country are offering in response to soaring mental health struggles among American youth.

***

In addition, the recent rise in school shootings and the fear teenagers have for them is doing lasting damage to our youth. As a result, many young people may not be able or willing to perform well at their schools. Consequently, this can leave us with an even bigger problem than before. One that will take years if not decades of work just to fix itself.

“American Teens Worry About Potential School Shooter,” says Harvard professor Mark Lemley; he also adds this worrying trend has caused widespread anxiety among American teens today—with some wondering whether they’ll ever feel safe again outside…

Solution for Parents

The pressures of life can be intense for teens. And when anxiety and stress mount due to the unknowns about school safety, it’s important that they have a safe space where their voice is heard. For instance, away from peers or academics who may judgingly mock them with negative comments.

Creating this sacred place in your home will provide solace; helping manage both mental health issues as well as a connection between parent/child relationships.

This curriculum is not like a traditional school. There are no exams being required periodically. After a specific period of time, there is 1 test given by an impartial 3d party. If the student passes, they are able to proceed to the next level. If not, they have the ability to acquire the information again. However, the tutors are uniquely positioned to provide the best assistance to make sure that the student is mentally prepared to pass the test.

What are the Ages of Adolescence?

Adolescence is a time of great change and uncertainty, but it also holds many opportunities for exploration. The three distinct stages are early adolescents (ages 11-14), middle adolescence covering ages 15 -17, and late adolescent which is from 18 years up until 21. During these periods there’s an increase in self-awareness as well as problems dealing with identity or independence.

.

Teaching your child of all ages the basics of reading, writing and arithmetic will give them a strong foundation for learning. But it is important to go beyond these subjects if you want him or her to be successful in life! Teaching children self-worth can help kids become their own boss at an earlier age by teaching entrepreneurship skills. As a result, they learn how valuable they are as an individual, no matter what path they take after graduation day comes around.

This alternative to traditional school learning is what is infused into their learning curriculum. The student can learn many subjects that aren’t normally taught in a traditional school. As they go higher in grade levels (at their own pace whether fast or slowly), they will be able to learn marketing principles and life lessons.

Homeschooling Helps With Anxiety for Parents Also!

I can imagine for parents working 1 or 2 jobs a day, it must be hard to have homeschooling for your children even if you want it. You can only stretch yourself so far. On one hand, you know that it would be great for your children to be able to be homeschooled. On the other hand, you have to work. What to do??
